President – Bob Tweedie, like many Bob was a runner who found the mere idea of triathlon daunting due to the swim... that was before expaTRIés.
Treasurer – Nikolai Malyshev "debits and credits are where the real fun is at"
Secretary – Andrea Copsey
Directeur Sportif – some job titles are just too good to translate! Brian Lang is a 5-time Ironman; if you want to know something about a race ask Brian – he has probably been there.
Events Coordinator – Amanda Smith, for this CO native, training and competing are only half the fun. She's always ready to answer the question: where's the after-party and who's coming?
Founding fathers – David Sullivan and David Dancey
Members – The composition of the club is global. To keep track we've pinpointed the nationalities of our membership.
November 2006, whilst on a Sunday ride from the Bois de Boulogne to the Vallée de la Chevreuse, David Sullivan and David Dancey decided to set up a tri club in France for English-speaking athletes. Both were kicking-off their winter training for long distance races the following summer. Both were already members of French triathlon clubs. Both wanted to train and meet new people. Both considered that many English-speaking athletes simply did not take part in triathlon whilst they were living in France because they could not find the right club.
March 2007, the first club run took place in the Bois de Boulogne on a cold wet Sunday just before the Paris marathon.
November 2007, expaTRIés Triathlon Club was officially registered with the French Triathlon Federation and as a not for profit organisation.
In its first year the club attracted 10 members (more than double the average start-up membership for triathlon clubs in France). During 2008 the club took part in the Paris Marathon, Rotterdam Marathon, Time Mégève, St Pölten 70.3, Antwerp 70.3, Monaco 70.3, Paris Olympic, Geneva Olympic, Boulogne-Billancourt Half Marathon and more! The club continues to grow and we are excited in helping the expat (and local) triathlon community expand in Paris.
