We arrived Saturday night and collected our dossards and put the bikes in the park so no hassle in the morning but it was a cold, grey and windy Sunday. 23-24kts of wind parallel to the beach as forecast so they reversed the swim course so we weren’t battling the swell so much. Slow swim conditions in a lumpy, cold sea (13.5°C) and half iron distance was shortened to 1.5km from 1.9km.

Given the change in course it was then a long run back along the beach and up to the bike park where all our gear was placed on hooks and into the changing tent before heading out on the bike. The infamous ‘wall’ after about 2km took it’s toll on many riders who decided that walking up was the best option. I had to have a 5min pit stop to unjam my back wheel on the hill  (note to self – when changing rear cassette put back wheel in properly next time!). It was generally hillier than anticipated with over 500m of climbing for the Olympic course. Bravo to the long distance guys had to do the ‘wall’ 3 times  !!

The run was a fairly straight forward affair – a couple of loops around the marina and boardwalk plus it was flat all the way round to the finish!

Hats off to the organiser – it was a very well marshalled raced on closed roads with plenty of refreshments on the way round.

V happy with mid-fleet position for only my second Olympic distance race.

Commiserations to Jamie who had his first DNF in over 100 triathlons. But his company in the car back to Paris was much appreciated.
