Quiberon Triathlon 2014

Quiberon1" width="204" height="300" />Last weekend was the Quiberon Triathlon in the coastal resort town in Southern Britanny. Conditions were ideal : sunny, flat sea and no wind ( a mild sea breeze would have been appreciated though for the run). Finally I had to go solo, since the race filled up extra quick, Karen and Alex who hoped to come couldn't be guarenteed a place.

Quiberon3" width="300" height="199" /> It was a weekend of triathlons. Saturday morning was kids and juniors. The afternoon was the elite teams competing for the Grand Prix D1. Present was the Green Team from Sartrouville. And showing us how it is done, was Jonathan and Alistair Brownlee (Gold and Bronze medals London Olympics). Sunday was Sprint in the morning and Olympic distance the afternoon. I did the Olympic distance, which I normally tend to shun because of my swimming inabilities. Anyway the race did not quite go as I planned. (Which reminds me of as a saying " Men make plans and God chuckles"). I was especially concerned with the swimming section, which was "à l'australienne" with run out on the beach between the two 750m loops. That went without incident, but I started the cycle section with a puncture and without my pump. So between running back to transition and changing my tyre I was allowed to have the pace car just behind me during the repair and following me when I cycled off - a bit unnerving - till I had caught up a few straglers then it was their turn. The rest of the race went without any particular problems but I was unable to catch up my lost time. The run was quite warm but plenty of water was available on the course and at the finish. An enjoyable getaway weekend well worth the 500 km distance . No medals for my results but I still have my cold sore to show for my efforts.

Book early - the organisers refund 75% upto a week before the event. Registration fees are nominal anyway. PPS I hope to organise a training weekend in Quiberon sometime this season - let me know if you're interested
